Tile and Grout Questions

Do you install tile?

No. Grout & Carpet Wizards specializes in flooring repair, cleaning, and maintenance. We will repair broken tile.

Do I have to seal my stone and grout?

Because stone and grout are a porous material, they need to be sealed. If they are not sealed, they will discolor over time.

After I have my grout or stone sealed, will it ever get dirty again?

Yes, you will. Sealers are designed to resist permanent stains, not to repel normal dirt and dust. Sweeping and gentle cleaners will help keep your tile looking fresh.

How long do sealers last?

It really depends. Each situation is different based on traffic, wear, and maintenance; if you are concerned, please contact us and one of our associates will give you an estimate and answer all of your questions!

Carpet, Upholstery, and Rug Questions

How long does the carpet take to dry?

The normal drying time is anywhere from 6 to 12 hours. While the carpet is drying, it will be damp to the touch. Depending on weather conditions, room temperature, air flow, and overall conditions this time can vary. We will do our best to give you an accurate estimate on our departure. Wait until the carpet is completely dry to move heavy furniture back to prevent unsightly creasing.

Does your cleaning process soak the backing of the carpet?

No! Our process rinses the carpet deep down to remove trapped dirt, but moisture does not penetrate the backing of the carpet. The carpet may feel damp to the touch when we are finished, but rest assured the carpet will dry in 6 to 12 hours.

Can you get the pet odor out of my carpet?

Pet odor is a hard problem to diagnose. Often times, the problem is much deeper than it seems. Pet urine can easily soak through the backing of the carpet into the padding underneath. In more severe cases the urine can penetrate into the sub-floor beneath the padding. Bacteria growth may start at the soiled spot, worsening the odor and potentially discoloring the carpet fiber.

The urine must be removed or neutralized from each of the layers affected, including the face yarn layer, the backing, or the subfloor, depending on how damaged the area is.

In the most severe cases, replacement of the carpet padding, treatment of the under-side of the carpet and the sub-floor may be required. Even replacement of the carpet, however, cannot guarantee complete removal of the odor.

Left untreated over a period of time, pet odor can become absorbed into many of the porous materials in your home. It is important to remove pet stains as soon as possible to prevent any of your belongings from being ruined with the smell of pet urine.

Grout & Carpet Wizards offers a range of solutions to help you with your pet odor problems. In the long run, however, it may be more a matter of proper maintenance instead of total elimination. We love our pets and want to keep them a part of our family. Pet ownership adds to the challenge of maintaining a clean and healthy home. We can help you meet those challenges!

What are those ugly black lines around the baseboards of my carpet?

This soiling is called filtration soiling. It comes from air passing through the carpet as it is attempting to get through the crack between the carpet and the baseboard or under a closed door. As the air passes through the edge of the carpet pile, microscopic soil is deposited there. This occurs over a significant period of time and is not noticed until a build-up has occurred.

Can it be removed? Sometimes. This type of soiling is difficult to remove because the soil particles are so fine that they penetrate deep into the carpet pile, sometimes into the backing of the carpet. With special products, time and effort, reasonable results can sometimes be achieved. To help prevent filtration soiling, vacuum and wipe the edges of the carpeting on a regular basis.

What does it mean to have carpet "clean to the standards"? Is this a gimmick?

In 1992, representatives from the carpet manufacturing industry, the carpet cleaning industry, and the federal government all agreed upon a common set of standards for the carpet cleaning industry. It was agreed that each of these cleaning processes should include the following: pre-vacuum, pre-treat spots, hot water extraction, rinse, and dry within 24 hours.

We're not kidding when we say we clean to the standards. To learn more about how Grout & Carpet Wizard's 10-step cleaning process works and how it exceeds these standards, see what exactly we can do for your carpet and upholstery.
